Pre-Ballet/Primary Program
Our Pre-Ballet/Primary program, for ages 3.5-8 years, introduces children to the art of dance and music in a fun and supportive environment. Classes focus on the development of coordination, motor skills, and spacial awareness while introducing children to age appropriate ballet vocabulary. The curriculum is designed to progress through the course of the year. Pre-ballet and primary students are invited to participate in our Spring Performance.

Youth Program
The Oakland Ballet School offers formal ballet training, through a progressive curriculum, to students ages 7 and up. Students take 1-5 classes per week as they progress from beginning to advanced levels. All students Level 1 and up are given the opportunity to participate in our annual production of the Nutcracker and Spring Performance.

Registration & Placement
Students ages 3.5-8 may register for pre-ballet or primary classes; no previous ballet training necessary. Placement in class is based on age. Students must meet the specified age requirement per level by September 1st of the current school year. Space is limited.
We strongly recommend that new students ages 7 years old with no prior training begin in our Primary level. New students ages 8 & up with little to no previous training may register for Level 1A; no placement class necessary. Students ages 8 & up who have had one year or more of previous training need to schedule a placement class prior to registering in order to determine their appropriate level within the school. Any necessary adjustments will be made during the first 2 weeks of classes. The careful placement of students is taken seriously and is important to the proper development and safety of the dancer. The Artistic and Associate Directors will make all final decisions regarding class placement.
