Adult Classes

2007 BoleroAdult / Teen Program

The Oakland Ballet School offers adult classes for those interested in trying ballet for the very first time to the advanced dancer looking to continue their study and enjoyment of dance. Also open to teens 15 and up. Our 5-to-6-week sessions allow dancers to progress their technique, vocabulary, and movement.

Winter / Spring 2026

Beginning Contemporary (New Class!) – Contemporary dance is a dynamic fusion of Classical Ballet, Modern Dance, and Jazz. This ever-evolving style prioritizes fluid, grounded movement over rigid structure, allowing for more personal interpretation and expression.

Pilates for Dancers (New Class!) – This all-levels mat Pilates class is tailored for dancers of all ages, providing a full-body workout that develops the foundational core strength and control essential to ballet technique. Work on external rotation, back extension, single-leg stability, and more in a supportive environment with individual alignment cues and corrections.

Our Introduction to Ballet course is perfect for the absolute beginner or for the dancer who is perhaps returning to ballet for the first time since their youth. The class moves at a more slow and methodical pace, focusing on proper alignment, muscle engagement, and coordination, while learning the basic positions of the legs and arms and foundational movements such as plié, battement tendu, relevé, and souté. Dancers who are brand new to ballet typically attend the Introductory Course two-three times before moving up to the next level.

Introduction to Ballet 2 – This course is a continuation of Intro to Ballet 1 and serve as a bridge between Intro and Beginning Ballet. While still moving at a slower pace than Beginning Ballet, dancers use the foundational movements in the center in simple combinations.

Beginning Ballet – Recommended as a follow-up to our Introduction to Ballet Course 2, for those who have had at least one of previous ballet training, or those returning from an extended break. Using the foundational elements learned in Intro to Ballet, beginning students will expand their ballet vocabulary along with the added elements of port de bras, use of epaulement, and an increased focus on center work.

Advanced-Beginning Ballet – Dancers are introduced to more complex combinations both at the barre and in the center, with an increased focus on turns and allegro in the center. Recommended for dancers with 2+ years of training.

Dancers may join at any time!

Advanced Ballet – This combined youth and adult class is ideal for the dancer who studied ballet throughout their youth or extensively as an adult. This challenging class is best for dancers with technical proficiency and a thorough understanding of ballet vocabulary.
