Dress Code & Student Conduct
For proper training of our students, we’ve instituted a dress code. This enables our teachers to correctly assess placement of dancers’ bodies. When registering for classes, we ask all registrants to take note of these important procedures listed below.
Proper grooming and personal hygiene are an important part of the ballet discipline. Students are expected to provide their own hair supplies (hair ties, bobby pins, hair nets) and attend class in clean ballet attire. It is recommended that students label their dance clothes and shoes with their name.
Pre-Ballet & Primary Hair should be pulled away from face and neck in a ponytail, preferably in a bun. Hair that is too short for a bun or ponytail must be pulled back with a secure headband.
Level 1-5 All girls must have their hair secured in a bun. Students with long bangs need to have hair pinned back with hair clips or pulled back with a secure headband.

Primary Leotard TBD. Pink footed ballet tights. Pink ballet shoes.

Level 5 Black Leotard, any style. Pink convertible ballet tights. Pink ballet shoes. Black ballet skirts optional.
All level boys Plain white T-shirt, black tights or shorts, black shoes, or white socks with white shoes.
Students may wear warm-up clothes only during floor-barre at the beginning of class. Tank tops, T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants are not allowed during class or rehearsal. No dangly jewelry please.
Beginning August 2015, all attire for Pre-Ballet – Level 4 will be sold at the Oakland Ballet School; orders for ballet shoes will be taken in August, September, December, and April.
Our local dance store closed spring of 2015. Tights, shoes, accessories, warm-ups, and select leotards are also available at the following stores:
San Francisco Dancewear – 659 Mission St., San Francisco, CA 94105 – (415)-882-7087
Contra Costa Dancewear – 675 Ygnacio Valley Rd. B 104, Walnut Creek, CA 94596 – (925)-932-9660
Students should arrive ready for class or allow themselves time to get ready at the studio before the start of class time. Arriving late can be a distraction to the class and doesn’t allow the student to properly warm-up the body’s muscles beginning with floor-barre. Students arriving 10min after the start of barre may be asked to observe rather than participate at the teacher’s discretion.
Parents of younger students, please remember to make sure your child uses the restroom before class as it is disruptive if they have to leave during class.
All dancers should arrive and leave the studio with warm-up clothes over their dance attire or in street clothing.
